Currently Happening 12/6/16

This week is the kick off for Sachem's participation in the worldwide HOUR OF CODE. The students in our class became buddies for the Kindergarten students as they tried their little hands at Kodable for their coding hour.

We get to complete our hour of code on Friday! 

We also continue to explore Traditional Literature with classic American Folktales known as 

Tall Tales  working in groups reading some of Steven Kellogg's books.

From playing with colonial toys, making tavern signs, writing with quills, to making candles, silhouettes and clay candle holders all students were actively engaged and having a good time.

Today my daughter stopped by to chat and say hi to everyone. 

She had  memories to share with many of my students. She was their librarian way back when they were little kindergartners! And of course their conversations were about all things BOOKS!

So glad to see her today.

4-2 Mannequin Challenge

FLEX TIME

There are times during the day when kids are being pulled for so many different services and lessons that are classroom seems to have a revolving door. There are two dedicated times in our schedule that this is planned for called flex.
These are the times we "flex" different leaning muscles.

So What really Happens on Staff Development Day?

STEAM STANDARDS

We discussed the new STEAM/STEM standards for science along with registering for an hour coding in December. STEAM education is an approach to teaching and learning that integrates the content and. skills of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. 

Teachers were challenged to build a table 16 inches high from newspaper and masking tape that could hold ten ponds of books.  Our group was able to make a table that actually supported my weight! Can't wait to bring a STEAM challenge to our class real soon!

If that wasn't enough, just this weekend I was able to get my NERD on at a full day

  staff development for literacy in Jericho with my daughter.
