Thank You

Thank You
If you donated to Get Your Math Game On, thank you again from a great bunch of fourth graders. I think some of the pictures will help you see what your donation does for our class. I always put in money to help fund these projects because I believe in changing things up and meeting the needs of every child so that school becomes a fun place to be. Every year I try to bring in a new twist so its fun and fresh for everyone including me.

Strawbuilders were a big hit!

I still have two projects up on DonorsChoose. If you donate on Giving Tuesday, November 27th, you and I will both get a chance to win $5000 for our classroom. Every donation is one chance. It doesn't matter the amount either!

Reading Workshop Time

We have been working on expanding our vocabulary when talking about characters and their internal traits which are determined by what they say, do, feel and think. Trying to spice it up a bit, the students created their own monster and gave clues about their traits in a short blurb. I have included just a few of their monsters and clues to give you a taste of our reading workshop project.

We have also had a chance to get on a cool website to create our own Wonder  profile and choose a precept that speaks to us. We are reading a book in class called Out of My Mind, which will challenge us to treat other people with kindness and empathy despite what our eyes see first.

November News

Get Your Math Game On...
Since Macy's flash funded this project, I was able to put up another project that is dear to my heart. Lady Gaga is matching funds for a limited time until her funds run out. I also learned of another cool way for us to practice our math facts, so I put in for that as well. Please feel free to share with anyone that owns a business or friends and family that would like to partner with our class to make it a place that your kids want to be every day. I feel my goal is to make kids want to come to school to have "fun" and sneak in all the learning so they become lifelong learners!

A Visit to the Makerspace

Makerspace Time
This week we had our first visit to the Wenonah Makerspace. We started the Great Evapo Race.
We also got to explore a little to see some of the cool things in there.

Spin-a-Web

We learned about what it means to be an engineer and the design process in order to Spin A Web that would catch a two pound weight dropped from one meter. After testing and some revising, most webs successfully "caught" its prey.

Halloween Fun

The Multipurpose Room Makerspace for a Day

Makerspace for a Day

The Sachem Public Library came to fourth grade for the morning to share some of the fun and cool things available to your kids in the library. Make sure to check it out the next time you are there. I hear that the cafe upstairs makes a really mean Rainbow Cookie Latte too!
